Tulum - Mayan ruins of Zama

Tulum is a pre-Columbian walled city of the Maya civilization beautifully located on the Caribbean Sea in the state of Quintana Roo.
The city is surrounded by a wall on three sides and the sea on the fourth side. The earliest inscriptions date back to 564 A.D. but the majority of buildings was erected in the post-classic era between 1200 and 1450. In Mayan times Tulum might have been known as Zama, or the city of Dawn.
The city was abandoned by the end of the 16th century.
