Giza Pyramids - and the Great Sphinx
Giza - also sometimes rendered in English as Gizeh, Ghizeh, or Geezeh -
is a town in Egypt on the west bank of the Nile river, about 20 km southwest
of central Cairo and now part of the greater Cairo metropolis.
Giza is most famous as the location of the Giza Plateau: the site of some of the
most impressive ancient monuments in the world, including the Great Sphinx, the Great
Pyramid of Giza, and a number of other large pyramids and temples.
Among these the best known ones are the Great Pyramid (pyramid of Cheops / Khufu, 2580 BC),
the pyramid of Chephren (Khafre) and the smaller pyramid of Mykerinos (Menkaure)
and the Great Sphinx.
The latter is 57 metres (260 ft) long, 6 m (20 ft) wide, and
has a height of 20 m (65 ft).
Its age is unknown and remains feeding a lot of speculations.
